Widow Charged With Killing Husband 35 Years Ago Thanks To TV Show

Thirty-five years ago, Norma Allbritton became a widow after her husband was shot and killed entering his home. At the time, authorities believed that Johnnie Allbritton was murdered during a robbery, but they were never able to identify a suspect in the case.

The case went cold until 2015, when Leon County Sheriff Kevin Ellis contacted the producers of Cold Justice, which airs on the Oxygen network. After spending five weeks combing over the evidence and interviewing dozens of witnesses, they finally had a suspect in the case, Norma.

"This truly was a team effort," Ellis told the Palestine Herald-Press. "Without Cold Justice, I don't think we could've progressed as we have – but they also couldn't have done it without the LCSO staff."

She was indicted by a grand jury on murder charges and is facing life in prison if she is convicted. Authorities did not release details about the case or how they zeroed in on Norma as a suspect.

Officials say they are also taking another looking at the 1981 suicide of Norma's 13-year-old daughter.

"Through this investigation the suicide of her daughter has raised suspicion and we're going to investigate that also," Ellis explained.

The episode of Cold Justice that details the case will air on Oxygen sometime next year.
