Teacher Wins $1.5-Million In Fishing Contest

A high school math teacher just made a little extra money on the side by winning the world’s largest billfish tournament. Tommy Hinkle caught a 79.5-pound white marlin in the 46th White Marlin Open in Ocean City, Maryland and it wasn’t the first time he won. Back in 2008, he won the event with an 81-pound marlin, making him the first repeat winner of the contest.

His prize-winning fish reeled in a $1,504,720 payout, according to tournament officials.

"I was flabbergasted upon seeing weight," Hinkle says. "It's like a dream. Everything came together, and that's what it's all about."
