Former GOP Rep's Son Arrested For Painting "BLM" On Sign At Trump Course

The son of a former Republican Congressman was arrested for spray painting the initials for "Black Lives Matter on a sign at President Trump's golf course in Jupiter.

18-year old Thomas Joseph Rooney Jr. was booked into the county jail yesterday facing a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief, causing property damage of 200 dollars or less.

According to the police report, the teen said he sprayed "BLM" on the sign at Trump National Golf Club because he wanted to draw attention to "unequal treatment in the justice system."

The incident happened while the nation has been in the middle of racial tensions over the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man who was killed by a Minneapolis police officer.

Rooney Jr.'s father, Tom Rooney, served in the U.S. House for several years up until 2019. He told a local TV station that his son "made a mistake" and he hopes he learns a lesson.

Rooney is scheduled to appear in Palm Beach County court for a July 29th arraignment and he's expected to plead guilty.
