South Florida Lawmaker Calls For Special Session On Guns

A South Florida lawmaker calling for a special session to make Florida safer after the recent mass shootings in Texas and New York. State Representative Joseph Geller (D-Aventura) says something has to be done to stop this insanity. He wants lawmakers to regulate magazine size of large capacity rifles, expand Florida's Red Flag Law and require universal background checks on all firearms sales. A special session could be called by the Governor or when 20-percent of the Legislature makes this request to the Department of State. The Secretary of State would then conduct a poll requiring 60-percent of both chambers to call for it.
