Authorities say a man is in custody on a million dollars bond for the murder of a woman in Martin County.

Capt. Ruben Romero with the Martin County Sheriff's Office says 61-year old James Stephenson was arrested at a restaurant in Palm Beach County, hours after the victim was found at a home in Palm City.

"There was blunt force trauma to the body, to the head and neck area."

He says this was far from the man's first run in with the law.

"He has a lengthy criminal history. Some of it is violence. Some of it is drug-related, some domestic. It's all over the board."

Romero says Stephenson was recently arrested by Martin deputies on a charge of resisting arrest after a traffic stop during which he was believed to be intoxicated.

The suspect had been staying at a trailer on the five-acre property where the woman was murdered, while the owners were out of the country.

Stephenson is charged with second degree murder.
