LISTEN: Immunization Requirements Ahead Of School

Your kids aren't ready to return to school next week unless their vaccines and immunizations are up to date.

The state requires students have hepatitis B, measles-mumps-rubella, tetanus, chicken pox and polio shots.

"We want to make sure that these students are immunized so that we can prevent vaccine-preventable illness that are out there like polio that we are starting to see in other parts of our country," says Miami-Dade Schools' Comprehensive Student Health Services Executive Director Brenda Wilder.

Without the Florida Certification of Immunization form, students will not be allowed in physical or virtual classrooms.

To help parents, the county is offering free back-to-school shots at 14 clinics and health care centers tomorrow.

COVID shots are not offered at these locations but are encouraged for students.
