Drugs worth $3 million dropped at South Florida Coast Guard station

Miami Beach, FL - A huge haul of drugs worth over $3 million dollars was turned into a South Florida coast guard station last week.

Officials with the United States Coast Guard say officials seized approximately 22 pounds of cocaine and 1,256 pounds of marijuana in its operations in the East Pacific Ocean.

The operation was conducted as part of the Coast Guard’s operations to combat drug trafficking in the Pacific and Caribbean Seas.

Cmdr. Ryan A. Waters, commanding officer of one of the two ships involved in last week's drug bust, tells WFLA "Vigorous is glad to have been able to make an important contribution to the Coast Guard’s counter drug mission. I’m incredibly proud of the hardworking Vigorous crew’s proficiency teamwork and devotion to duty that enabled the detection, interdiction and boarding of a vessel suspected of drug smuggling.”

Agents say the drugs were left at the Miami Beach Coast Guard station after the ships returned to port.

The drugs have a street value of more than $3 million.
