Jupiter Horse Trainer Dealing With Kentucky Derby Disqualification

West Palm Beach (CBS12)

Veteran horse trainer, and part time Jupiter resident, Jason Servis thought he'd been a part of history at the Kentucky Derby, but instead his team is on the wrong side of history. Long time race horse owner Gary West's appeal was denied on Monday night, as controversy continues to surround the Kentucky Derby.

'Maximum Security' led wire to wire on Saturday, crossing the finish line for what seemed to be the Kentucky Derby victory, what would have been the first ever Kentucky Derby win for West and Servis. Instead 'Maximum Security' becomes the first horse in Kentucky Derby history to be disqualified, with the stewards ruling he interfered with several horses on the final turn.

"I'm sure that everyone has moments in their life that are more important than horses," said Servis in an exclusive phone interview with CBS12 News. "But we're all pretty bummed out. In my mind he's still undefeated. And I think he thinks the same thing, because all he knows is he was in front at the wire. He may be wondering why he didn't get his picture taken."

My brother won it, so we would have been the first brothers ever to win it, and that was something I really wanted. The only thing I can say is I'll be back."
