Woman Goes Viral For Finding, Recreating Recipes On Gravestones

A woman is going vital for her unusual hobby - finding and recreating recipes etched on gravestones. Rosie Grant’s TikTok page is full of videos showing her walking around cemeteries, but she’s on a mission. The clips show the gravestones themselves and the recipes they display, followed by the finished dishes she makes from the recipes.

Grant has been to graveyards all over, from California to New York to Israel and places in between, in search of gravestones featuring recipes. But it turns out, they’re not that easy to find. While the practice exists in countries around the world, she says the recipes are hard to come by. As of April, she said she’d only found around ten so far.

And while there may be other cooks out there doing the same thing, Grant seems to be one of the few people archiving her experience on social media. She didn’t start pursuing her passion project until earlier this year, when she was inspired by her grandmother, who had recently passed away from COVID. Grant’s grandma used to make a special yellow cake for her as a kid and reflecting on that gave her the idea for the hobby. “It’s nice to think about the recipes that hold a similar significance for other families,” she explains. And since these recipe-displaying gravestones aren’t easy to find, the search is kind of like a treasure hunt and she encourages her followers to tell her about any they find.
