School Bus Driver Wins $100,000 In Lottery, Retires Immediately

After a decade of driving kids to Jefferson County Public Schools, James Keown had been thinking about calling it quits and retiring. The Kentucky school bus driver recently got to retire early thanks to his good fortune playing Powerball.

Keown picked up a Powerball ticket from a Circle K in Louisville the day the numbers were picked. The next morning, he checked his numbers and could hardly believe what he saw. “I looked at it four times,” he recalls, “That number’s got to change, but it didn’t.” He’d matched four white balls and the Powerball, which would normally get you $50-thousand, but he’d played the multiplier, so his winnings were doubled.

After confirming his winning ticket, Keown called his boss to let him know that he’d be starting his retirement that day! The next day, Keown and his wife, Monta, made their way to Kentucky Lottery headquarters to claim their prize, walking away with just over $70-thousand after taxes. The couple plan to use some of their winnings to support local organizations that rescue kittens and cats and also plan on buying a property on a lake.
